Chinese President Xi Jinping plans to travel to Russia to meet Vladimir Putin next week, which would be earlier than originally planned.
The planned visit comes after China offered to broker a peace deal for Ukraine, a move that was met with skepticism by the West given China’s diplomatic support for Russia.
The Russian news agency Tass reported on January 30 that Vladimir Putin had invited Xi Jinping for a spring visit. last month the Wall Street Journal indicated that a visit to Moscow could take place in April or early May.
A partnership “without limits”
China’s foreign ministry did not immediately respond to a request for comment on Xi Jinping’s possible visit to Moscow, and the Kremlin declined to comment.
China and Russia entered into an “unlimited” partnership in February 2022, weeks before Russia invaded Ukraine. Since then, the two sides have reaffirmed the strength of their ties.
