Russia shot down four missiles over the Belgorod region, close to the border with Ukraine, in an alleged Ukrainian attack that left at least one person injured, Russian governor Viacheslav Gladkov said on Monday.
“Our anti-aircraft system worked in Belgorod. Four missiles were shot down,” the governor of the Russian region said in a text broadcast via the digital messaging network Telegram.
Gladkov indicated that although the defense worked, “a woman was injured” in the head and was transported to hospital.
Missile fragments also caused damage to residential buildings.
The Russian region borders the Ukrainian territory of Kharkiv.
The reports from the Russian governor have yet to be verified by independent sources and media.
In Ukraine, the Ukrainian army said today that there is “violent fighting in the Bakhmut region”.
Russia also reports, through the mercenary company Wagner, that there has been fighting for control of the city in the center of Bakhmut.
“The Russians are attacking in different directions and are advancing towards the central (Bakhmut) districts,” the Ukrainian army said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Yevgeny Prigozhin, owner of the Russian mercenary company Wagner involved in the siege of the Ukrainian city, said there was fighting in the central area.
“We are getting closer to the center of the city. The fighting is intensifying,” said the Russian businessman who worked for Moscow.
Information about the situation in Bakhmut city center has not yet been followed up by independent sources or media.
