Russia says it shot down four Ukrainian missiles in Belgorod

Russia announced that it had shot down four missiles over the Belgorod region, near the Ukrainian border, in a suspected Ukrainian strike that injured at least one person, Russian Governor Viacheslav Gladkov said today.

“Our air defense system worked in Belgorod. Four missiles were shot down,” said the governor of the Russian region in a text released through the Telegram digital messaging network.

Gladkov said that although the defense worked, “a woman was injured” in the head and was taken to hospital.

Missile fragments also caused damage to residential buildings.

The Russian region borders the Ukrainian territory of Kharkiv.

The reports of the Russian governor have not yet been verified by independent sources and media.

In Ukraine, the Ukrainian Army said today that there are “violent fighting in the Bakhmut region.”

Russia also mentions, through the Wagner mercenary company, that there have been battles in the center of Bakhmut for control of the city.

“The Russians are attacking in various directions advancing towards the (Bajmut) headquarters,” the Ukrainian military said in a press release.

Meanwhile, Yevgeny Prigozhin, owner of the Wagner Russian mercenary company involved in the siege of the Ukrainian city, said there was fighting in the central area.

“We are getting closer and closer to the center of the city. The fighting is getting tougher,” said the Russian businessman who works for Moscow.

Information about the situation in the center of the city of Bakhmut has not yet been followed up by independent sources or media.
