Jimmy Carter, 98, recently weakened by numerous health problems, is now receiving hospice care at his home in Plains, his Georgia hometown. It is precisely “surrounded by his family” that the former president of the United States chose to spend his “last moments”, according to the words used on February 18 by the foundation that bears his name.
But if the 39th resident of the White House is still alive, we already know more about his upcoming funeral. And this, because of a confidence released in public by the acting president, and broadcast on CNN.
Indeed, on Monday Joe Biden – who did not formalize his desire to run for re-election but was still participating in a fundraiser at Rancho Santa Fé in California – declared that he would be in charge of speaking at his mentor’s funeral.
“He (Jimmy Carter, editor’s note) asked me to give his funeral speech,” he began before immediately acknowledging: “I’m sorry, I shouldn’t say it.”
50 year old friends
He still saw fit to continue: “I spent time with Jimmy Carter, and (his health problems, editor’s note) finally caught up with him. But the doctors found a way to prolong his life much longer than they expected, because they achieved a great Advance”.
It seemed here – according to the interpretation given by the site of the American chain – to refer to his predecessor’s fight against cancer, a disease that he had overcome in December 2015.
The closeness of Joe Biden and Jimmy Carter is well known. Their relationship began in the 1970s when Joe Biden was a young senator. If the last visit from the first to the second, in Georgia, dates back to 2021, he kept in touch with the Carter family and his entourage, CNN still underlines.
