Sunak promises Zelensky that the Allies will continue to arm Kiev

British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak assured Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on Thursday that he will continue to work with allied countries to ensure that the arrival of arms to Ukraine is not interrupted.

In a phone conversation, the two leaders discussed the situation in the battle for Bakhmut, in eastern Ukraine, and acknowledged “the courage of those defending the region”. stressed in a statement the office of the British Prime Minister (Downing Street).

Rishi Sunak also spoke of “his talks with counterparts from France, the United States and Australia in recent days” about military support to Ukraine.

“The UK will continue to work closely with its allies to ensure Ukraine has the defensive equipment it needs.” Downing Street emphasized in the press release.

For Sunak, it is “vital” that Ukraine has the capacity to “change the equation on the battlefield as quickly as possible”.

The British Prime Minister and Zelensky also welcomed the fact that French troops will participate in the training Ukrainian soldiers receive from the British army, which will “give Ukraine an additional advantage on the battlefield”.

The military offensive launched by Russia in Ukraine on February 24, 2022 has so far led to the flight of more than 14.6 million people – 6.5 million internally displaced persons and more than 8.1 million to European countries – according to the latest data from the UN, which classifies this refugee crisis as the worst in Europe since World War II (1939-1945).

At the moment, at least 18 million Ukrainians need humanitarian aid and 9.3 million people need food aid and shelter.

The Russian invasion – justified by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russian security – was condemned by the international community at large, which responded by sending weapons to Ukraine and Russia impose political and economic sanctions.

The UN presented 8,173 civilian deaths and 13,620 wounded as confirmed since the start of the war, underlining that these numbers are far below the real ones.
