The total number of deaths from the second passage of Cyclone Freddy through Mozambique amounts to 66, according to preliminary data from the National Institute for Disaster Management (INGD) released this Friday.
The total number of people affected amounts to 357,000, the vast majority in the province of Zambézia, where the city of Quelimane was the most affected.
There are some 59,000 people spread across 151 reception centers that operate in five provinces: Zambézia, Niassa, Sofala, Manica and Tete.
In terms of structures, more than 30,000 precarious homes were completely destroyed and another 40,000 are damaged, which means greater difficulties for families to keep their belongings, that is, food.
The country’s main highway, national highway 1 (EN1), is closed near Quelimane and, in total, the country has seven bridges destroyed and 2,100 kilometers of roads affected.
Regarding basic services, 55 health units were damaged and more than 1,500 classrooms were affected, harming 134,000 students.
Power distribution remains unfit, with 457 power poles damaged.
