White House: China “Cannot Be Considered Impartial”

The US presidency believes that “China cannot reasonably be considered impartial” regarding the war in Ukraine, a White House spokesman said Tuesday.

At a time when Chinese President Xi Jinping is visiting Moscow, where a peace plan for the war in Ukraine is being discussed with his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby, said China has not condemned the invasion of Russia or stopped buying oil from that country.

Kirby also accused Beijing of “broadcasting Russian propaganda” that the war in Ukraine was the result of Western aggression, while Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping today hailed the entry into a “new era” of their “special” relationship.

The spokesman for the US executive opined that the two countries are not connected by a real alliance, but by a “marriage of convenience”.

China and Russia “want to change the rules” that govern the international order, John Kirby said, stating that US President Joe Biden, however, intends to maintain communication channels with Beijing and meet with Xi Jinping, without further details.

John Kirby also indicated that China has not yet provided military aid to Russia, but is considering the possibility, which China denies.

These are the White House’s most blunt comments on Xi Jinping’s visit to the Kremlin, which was primarily intended to demonstrate the solidity of relations between Russia and China.

The Chinese president said Beijing-Moscow relations are entering “a new era” after signing a statement with his Russian counterpart on the “deepening of the strategic partnership” between Russia and China.

In a similar vein, Putin praised the “special nature of Russian-Chinese relations”.

The Kremlin leader also admitted that the peace plan for Ukraine presented by China could serve as a basis for a resolution of the conflict, which began last February with the Russian invasion, when the West is ready.

As for the relationship between Washington and Beijing, which was already very tense, it has become even worse since the United States destroyed a Chinese balloon in February, which the Americans believed was carrying out a spy mission, which China also denies.
