The riots that marked protests in France on Thursday, against the pension reform, resulted in the arrest of 457 demonstrators and 441 agents were injured, the Ministry of the Interior reported this Friday.
The figures were provided by the Interior Minister, Gérald Darmanin, who, in an interview with CNews, said that the extreme left is responsible for the acts of violence that occurred outside the marches organized by the unions.
“The extreme left wants to attack the Republic and it is necessary to convey a message of condemnation,” said the minister.
Darmanin acknowledged in the same interview that the unions condemned the violence, “unlike” some members of the opposition.
A nationwide protest was held in France on Thursday against the presidential decree that changed the retirement age from 62 to 64.
The demonstrations were organized by French trade union structures.
