Ten people have died and four more are missing in Italy as a result of a violent storm that shook the center of the country this morning, said firefighters, who have received hundreds of calls for help in recent hours.
All the deaths were recorded in the Marche region, where 400 millimeters of water was recorded in just two hours, “which is a third of the year’s rainfall,” said the head of Italian civil defense Fabrizio Curzio.
The force of the water hit several villages in the region, where firefighters are trying to locate the victims of the storm, which also affected, albeit to a lesser extent, the neighboring region of Tuscany.

Among the missing is a child who was in a car. The mother was rescued, but the child was washed away by flooding.
The local fire brigade said 300 people were working in the flooding and that “dozens of people” were rescued overnight after taking refuge on the roofs of houses and trees.
The worst affected area was Ancona, a port city on the Adriatic coast, where several areas had no electricity or telephone connection. Schools in the affected areas were closed on Friday.
The streets of the port town of Senigallia, just off the coast, were transformed into authentic rivers, while aerial footage of the village of Pianello di Ostra inland showed streets full of mud and piled-up cars.
