Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky told German media on Wednesday that he does not believe Russia will use nuclear weapons after President Vladimir Putin said Moscow would use all means to protect its territory.
“I can’t believe he’s going to use these weapons”, Zelensky told the television channel of the German newspaper Bild, referring to nuclear weapons. “I don’t believe the world will allow him to use these weapons,” he added, still admitting that there are some “risks.”
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “partial mobilization” of the country’s citizens on Wednesday as the war in Ukraine approaches the seventh month of the conflict, in a message addressed to the nation. The measure, which has already entered into force, is justified by the need to defend the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Zelensky told the picture what Putin wants to drown Ukraine in blood, but also in blood of his own soldiers and that the Kremlin leader’s speech is not exactly his “favorite video”, but that what has been announced is nothing new.
According to the Ukrainian president, the partial mobilization shows that: Russia has “problems with officers and other military personnel”. “We already know they were mobilizing cadets, people who didn’t know how to fight. These cadets fell, they couldn’t even finish their training. All these people can’t fight. They came to us and died.”he said, stressing that Putin needs a “million dollar army” to take down the Ukrainian resistance.
Despite the Russian president’s statements, Zelensky says he has no intention of canceling the reconquest of Russian-occupied territories. “I am convinced that we will liberate our territoryhe stressed, stressing that the referendums that will be held in the breakaway regions are “false referendums” and that they will not be recognized by 90% of the countries.
In one of Ukraine’s first reactions to the partial mobilization announced by the Russian president and reported by the Ukrainian news agency Ukrinform, Podolyak jokes: “Everything is still on schedule, right? Life has a great sense of humor.”
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu today announced the mobilization of 300,000 reservists and acknowledged that the country has lost 5,937 soldiers during the campaign in Ukraine that began in February.
Russia, which invaded Ukraine on February 24, is willing to use “all means” to “protect itself,” Putin said, accusing the West of wanting to destroy the country.
