Seven people died Friday in an explosion at a chocolate factory in West Reading, Pennsylvania, US officials said Sunday.
The discovery of the last two victims, on Sunday, put an end to the rescue operations of the emergency services, reported the North American television channel NBC News.
Hours earlier, West Reading Police Chief Wayne Holben told a news conference that officers had done everything possible to recover all those affected by the explosion, which left ten injured.
The identity of the victims has not yet been released and authorities have yet to say their relationship to the factory, NBC News noted.
The explosion took place at an RM Palmer chocolate factory. The company has already committed to “supporting employees and families,” according to a statement.
“We have lost close friends and colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of all those affected,” she added.
Since 1948, RM Palmer has produced celebratory chocolates like chocolate bunnies for Easter and chocolate hearts for Valentine’s Day, according to the company’s website.
The Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency (PEMA) said the explosion may have been caused by a gas leak.
