Two US Army helicopters collide during military training. Deaths are “expected”

Two U.S. Army Blackhawk helicopters collided Wednesday night during a training mission in Kentucky, according to U.S. officials.

The condition of the “crew members is unknown at this time,” the Fort Campbell military base said in a statement released Thursday. “The command is currently focused on caring for the military and their families,” the note reads.

The 101st Airborne Division helicopters crashed about 10 p.m. Wednesday in Trigg County, Kentucky, northwest of Fort Campbell.

Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear said fatalities were expected. “We got some tough news from Fort Campbell with initial reports of a helicopter crash and expected deaths,” he tweeted.

He stated that the police and emergency services responded to the incident. “Please pray for all affected,” Beshear wrote on social media.

Fort Campbell said the incident is under investigation. “More information will be released as it becomes available,” he said.
