Putin accuses the European Union of entering into a “geopolitical confrontation” with Russia

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday accused the European Union of entering into a “geopolitical confrontation” with Moscow.

The statements were made during a televised ceremony in which the Russian leader received letters of credence from ambassadors, including Roland Galharague, the new European Union envoy.

The point is that since the Russian invasion last February, Russia has been the target of several EU and US sanctions.

Putin also told the new US ambassador to Moscow, Lynne Tracy, that Washington was responsible for the “Ukrainian crisis”.

Last week, Russian authorities arrested American journalist Evan Gershkovich on charges of “espionage”, which Washington considers “ridiculous”.

“Relations between Russia and the United States, on which global security and stability directly depend, are undergoing a deep crisis,” Putin admitted to the new US envoy, as he implored 17 ambassadors.

Lynne Tracy is a Russian-speaking diplomat who has worked in the former Soviet republics of Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan. She became ambassador during the worst crisis between the US and Russia.
