The White House condemned this Wednesday “any type of attack” on judges and prosecutors, in the context of the case of former US President Donald Trump, accused and who appeared before the courts for irregular payments to a pornographic actress.
“We condemn any kind of attack on any judge, as we have seen happen in recent years,” particularly since President Joe Biden took office, US government spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre said.
Biden’s spokeswoman had been consulted about criticism from members of the Republican Party, Trump, the judge and the New York prosecutor in charge of the former president’s case.
At her daily news conference, the spokeswoman said she couldn’t talk about Trump’s case, but stressed: “It’s something we definitely condemn.”
The spokeswoman also assured that Biden is not focused on this issue, but “on the American people.”
Trump appeared in a New York court on Tuesday, where he was charged with 34 counts related to irregular payments to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels during the 2016 presidential campaign to prevent her from going public with a sexual relationship between them.
Upon returning to Florida, the Republican politician, the first former president of the United States to be impeached, described the accusation as a “baseless case” and denounced political persecution in the framework of the campaign for the 2024 elections.
