China said on Monday it had “successfully completed” three days of live-fire military exercises near Taiwan. These Beijing exercises were a response to Taiwan President Tsai Ing-wen’s meeting with US House Speaker Kevin McCarthy last week.
After three days of exercises, the Chinese military said it had “comprehensively tested the integrated joint combat capability of multiple branches of the military under actual combat conditions.” According to a statement from the Eastern Command of the People’s Liberation Army, quoted by AFP, Chinese troops are “ready for battle and can fight at any time, resolutely crushing any form of separatism for ‘Taiwan independence’ and attempts at interference foreigner”.
During these military exercises, Beijing simulated attacks targeting Taiwan, and a state media report claimed dozens of planes engaged in an “air blockade.”
