The president of Moldova, Maia Sandu, today called a pro-European demonstration for May 21 with the aim of opposing the forces that want to divide the country taking advantage of the Russian military campaign in Ukraine.
“We must clearly answer the question: do we want to be part of the civilized world? We must come together to be part of the European family,” Sandu said in a televised address.
Sandu announced the call for what he called a “popular assembly” for next May 21 in the country’s capital, Chisinau, with this objective: “to tell the world that we are Europeans and that this is the path we have chosen,” he said. . .
“We are going to give a firm and clear answer (…) I urge everyone to support our common dream, to show that we want peace and that we want the European Union (EU) to be our home,” he defended.
Sandu, who announced contacts with parties and academics to prepare for the assembly, criticized the “group of thieves” who want to obstruct Moldova’s European path.
The president also denounced the pro-Russian protests, which want to divide society and destabilize the country and are financed with “dirty money”, but without directly referring to the Kremlin.
Recently, a Kremlin plan to subjugate Moldova politically and economically, prevent its entry into the EU and NATO and impose the Russian language was unveiled.
