At least 43 migrants rescued off Spanish coast

At least 43 migrants who were on board a small boat were rescued this Tuesday by the ship Salvamar Leo, of the Spanish Maritime Rescue, off the coast of Alicante, in southern Spain.

According to a Red Cross source, 28 men, 10 women and five young girls were on the ship, apparently in good health, although they received medical care at the port of Alicante, in southern Spain.

Spanish authorities have mobilized the Immediate Emergency Response Team (ERIE AHI), consisting of a team leader, two emergency medical technicians, two Arabic interpreters, two land rescuers and an ambulance with basic life support to assist the rescued migrants.

These 43 migrants join more than 400 who have arrived since Friday from different parts of the Spanish coast, namely the Canary Islands, Andalusia, Murcia and the Balearic Islands.

In the past few hours, 23 people have arrived in Formentera in two different boats, another 17 have reached Cabo de Gata (Andalusia) and about 50 have been rescued off the coast of Cartagena (Murcia).
