Donald Trump says he will run for US president even if convicted

Former US President (2017-2021) Donald Trump said on Tuesday that he will not withdraw from the presidential candidacy even if convicted of the 34 counts of falsifying business records.

The statements were made in an interview with the television channel Fox newsthe first following allegations regarding payments made to pornographic actress Stormy Daniels to buy her silence over a sexual relationship between the two.

The 76-year-old Republican took the opportunity to criticize the president, Joe Biden, 80, who has stated his intention to run for re-election in 2024.

“I don’t think he can [concorrer ao cargo]”Trump said of Biden, adding that “it’s not about age, (…) there’s just something wrong [com ele]”.

Regarding the war in Ukraine, Trump said it’s something that wouldn’t have happened if he was still in the White House and even claimed to have spoken to Russian President Vladimir Putin about the subject while he was still in the White House used to be.

“I could see that he loved Ukraine, considers it part of Russia”he said, criticizing current US policies on the war, especially military support for the Ukrainian government.

According to data from the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the US has provided more than $70 billion (€64 billion) in aid to Ukraine since the start of the war, including humanitarian, military and financial support.
