Since the start of the war in Ukraine, the Serbian government has taken a neutral stance regarding historical, cultural and economic ties with Moscow, refusing even to impose sanctions against Russia, but secret Pentagon documents posted online reveal that Serbia has agreed to send weapons to Ukraine.
A set of classified photos and documents have been revealed successively in recent days on the social networks Twitter, Telegram, Discord and other platforms and reveal details about the response and details of European military assistance to Kiev.
In a document dated March 2, to which the Reuters agency had access, Serbia refused to participate in the training teams of the Ukrainian forces, but expressed its willingness to send weapons to the country.
The Pentagon has broken down the response of 38 nations to the conflict in Ukraine into categories: countries that have committed to providing military training and lethal assistance; countries that have already provided military training, lethal assistance, or both; countries with the military capacity and political will to provide lethal aid in the future.
Austria and Malta were the only two countries marked “No” in all categories.
The US Department of Justice, which opened an investigation on Saturday, is trying to identify the source of the leak and is examining the validity of the released documents.
The Washington Post quoted officials as saying that some documents appear to have been forged. But most correspond to reports from the CIA (secret service), present in the White House, the Pentagon and the State Department.
