The Ukrainian deputy foreign minister delivered a letter to the Indian authorities in which kyiv requests additional humanitarian aid to deal with the consequences of the Russian invasion.
Emine Dzhaparova, who wrapped up the Ukrainian government’s first high-level visit to India since the outbreak of the war on Wednesday, “delivered a letter from the president [ucraniano Volodymyr] Zelensky to the Prime Minister, [indiano Narendra] Modi,” India’s Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.
“He also shared Ukraine’s request for humanitarian supplies, including medicines and medical equipment,” during a meeting with India’s Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Culture, Meenakshi Lekhi, can be read in the same note.
The Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also noted that the Ukrainian deputy minister highlighted the possibility of rebuilding the infrastructure destroyed during the Russian invasion as “an opportunity” for companies in the Asian country.
During the visit, the Ukrainian deputy minister requested a seat at this year’s G20 meetings chaired by India and Zelensky’s intervention at the leaders’ summit in New Delhi in September.
India is heavily reliant on Russian military imports and increased purchases of Russian crude last year, which pushed imports to record levels, partly due to advantages and prices offered by Moscow.
