Three Colombian fighters die in attack in Donetsk

At least three Colombians who were part of an international infantry battalion fighting in the war in Ukraine were killed in a Russian attack on March 30 in the Donetsk region, according to the country’s Foreign Ministry.

In a statement, the ministry revealed the existence of “information from the Armed Forces of Ukraine about the death of three Colombian citizens, who were in the Infantry Battalion No. 49 called ‘Carpathian Sich’.”

The statement added that the Colombians died on March 30 in the province of Terny Kramatorsk but, “due to the bombing and the destruction of the trenches, it was only possible to recover the bodies” on April 15.

“From the Embassy of Colombia in Poland, together with Ukraine, contact was maintained with each of the families to inform them of this unfortunate news and guide them in the process, either in the procedures for the repatriation of the body or in relation to its cremation. “he added.

On January 24, the ministry reported that two other Colombians who were fighting as volunteers in Ukraine, as part of the International Legion, died on that occasion.

In the middle of last year, another Colombian who joined the Ukrainian army, Christian Camilo Márquez, died, as well as Alexis Castillo, who fought in Donbass on the side of the pro-Russians.

The military offensive launched on February 24, 2022 by Russia in Ukraine was justified by Russian President Vladimir Putin with the need to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine for Russia’s security.

The UN presented as confirmed, since the beginning of the conflict, 8,490 dead civilians and 14,244 wounded, stressing that the figures are below the real ones.
