A fire destroys a fuel depot in Volna, in Russia’s Krasnodar region, just over ten kilometers from the bridge connecting Russia to the Crimean peninsula, the Ukrainian territory annexed by Moscow in 2014.
“The fire covers an area of 1,200 square meters. 23 units of special vehicles and 85 firefighters are fighting the flames,” said the head of the local administration, Fyodor Babenkov through a message on the Telegram platform.
This is the second fire to hit fuel depots on Russian territory in the last four days.
In the early hours of last Saturday, an attack with unmanned aerial devices (drones) caused a fire in a fuel tank in the port of Sevastopol, in Crimea, the main base of the Russian Fleet in the Black Sea.
According to Krasnodar Governor Veniamin Kondratiev, the Volna fire has not caused any casualties so far.
“Information is spreading on social networks that the withdrawal of the Volna residents has begun (…) this information does not correspond to reality,” Kondratiev said.
The governor added that the situation does not require an evacuation and asked the population to “remain calm” without mentioning the causes that caused the fire.
So far, the situation in Volna has not been verified by independent sources.
