The house of former Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro in Brasilia was raided by the Federal Police this Wednesday.
Under discussion is the investigation into the dissemination of false information about vaccination against Covid-19 in the systems of the Ministry of Health.
According to the Brazilian newspaper O Globo, Lieutenant Colonel Mauro Cid, a former assistant to Jair Bolsonaro, was arrested.
Jair Bolsonaro was not the subject of an arrest warrant, but must be heard this Wednesday at the Federal Police headquarters in Brasilia.
Operation Venire investigates the actions of what are conventionally called “digital militias”, an alleged criminal association formed to commit the crimes of inserting false vaccination data against Covid-19 into the computer systems of the Ministry of Health.
“In Brasilia and Rio de Janeiro, sixteen search and kidnapping warrants and six preventive arrest warrants are executed, in addition to analyzing the material seized during the raids and conducting interviews with people who have information about the facts,” reveals a statement released on Brazilian Federal Police website.
“The false insertions, which occurred between November 2021 and December 2022, resulted in the alteration of the truth about a legally relevant fact, that is, the immunization status against covid-19 of the beneficiaries of the respective vaccination certificates and use them to circumvent the current sanitary restrictions imposed by public authorities (Brazil and the United States) aimed at preventing the spread of a contagious disease, in this case, the covid-19 pandemic ”, it can be read.
The investigation is pending in the Federal Supreme Court (STF).
