The Russian government assured on Wednesday it had shot down two Ukrainian drones targeting the Kremlin and denounced an attempt to assassinate President Vladimir Putin.
“Two drones targeting the Kremlin were disabled due to the use of radar systems,” the Kremlin said. “We consider these actions to be attempted terrorism and an attempt on the president’s life,” he added.
Despite the attack, the Kremlin says the planned May 9 Moscow parade marking the Soviet Union’s victory over the Nazis is going ahead.
“The parade will take place. There are no changes to the plans,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Russia’s TASS news agency.
The Russian military offensive on Ukrainian territory, launched on February 24 last year, plunged Europe into what is considered the most serious security crisis since World War II (1939-1945).
Ukraine has already gone public that it has “nothing to do” with an alleged drone attack on the Kremlin, which Moscow said was an attempt by Ukrainians to assassinate Putin. ‘Ukraine has nothing to do with drone attacks on Kremlin’said presidential spokesman Mikhaylo Podolyak. “Ukraine is not attacking the Kremlin because it is not solving military targets in the first place”he added.
