Russian opponent Alexei Navalny said on Wednesday that authorities in the prison where he is serving an eight-year sentence tortured him with speeches by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“A long time ago I read in a detective novel how prisoners were tortured by forcing them to listen to Mao Zedong’s poetry. [líder comunista e fundador da República Popular da China] at maximum volume. It seems that our prison system knows this book too.”wrote Navalny on the Telegram platform.
According to the opponent, they force him to listen “for hours” to the interventions of the Kremlin head.
My most creative punishment right now is listening to Putin’s speeches at full volume every afternoon.said Navalny, adding that these were speeches after the start of the military intervention in Ukraine, in February 2022.
For Navalny, who says he hasn’t lost his composure, the attitude proves that listening to Putin “is torture”.
The opponent indicated that he usually listens to Putin’s words just before going to sleep, in which the Russian president guarantees that “Russia has not started the war”.
At these times, the opponent added, he thinks “it is better to be imprisoned than submission” to the Russian authorities.
Navalny, currently appointed as the Kremlin’s main opponent, has been in prison since 2021 after returning to Russia after a period of recuperation in Germany, where he recovered from alleged poisoning.
Navalny is accused of extremism by Russian authorities and faces another prison sentence in a criminal case he says aims to keep him in prison for life.
