Russian attacks left almost 200,000 Ukrainian families without electricity

Intense missile and heavy artillery attacks launched early Thursday by Russian forces on the extensive front line left some 200,000 families served by the Ukrainian national electricity grid without power, the state-owned utility Ukrenergo said in a statement.

“At midnight, the enemy [exército russo] launched a missile attack against electricity production infrastructure in the eastern province of Donetsk, damaging equipment and leaving around 186,000 consumers without power,” the company said in a statement.

The document adds that this Thursday morning the electricity supply was restored to all those affected and adds that the attacks also caused damage to the electricity distribution network in six other regions in the north, east and south of the country.

The Russian strikes also knocked out power to 15,000 consumers in the Dnipropetrovsk region in central Ukraine and another 6,000 in the southern Kherson province.

Ukrainian authorities, in a new assessment, reported the deaths of 23 people in Kherson, following Russian attacks on Wednesday.

“During the Russian aggression, 23 people were killed, 46 – including two children – were injured,” the head of the military administration of the Kherson province, Oleksandr Prokudin, wrote on Telegram on Thursday.

Some of the deaths were workers at the regional power company, Ukrenergo said, but he did not specify the number of operators killed.

The Russian army again attacked kyiv and its surroundings this Thursday morning with type drones “shahed“, Iranian-made, and which, according to Ukraine, were shot down, said the head of the capital’s military administration, Serhiy Popko.

“In the early morning of May 3-4, the aggressor again attacked Kiev with ‘drones’ and missiles, presumably of a ballistic type. The Ukrainian air defense forces shot down all enemy targets,” Popko said on the Telegram platform.

“This is already the third time that the capital has been attacked in the first four days of May. Since the beginning of the year, our city has not suffered such an intensity of attacks,” the military wrote.

Russia attacked the kyiv-controlled Kherson territories 98 times that day, firing 539 heavy artillery shells, rockets, tanks, drones and planes.
