Russia’s deputy defense minister, General Dmitri Bulgakov, responsible for supplies and ammunition, has been removed from office, the Russian government said in a statement on Saturday.
General Colonel Mijail Mizintsev was appointed to the post, who had hitherto been the head of the National Defense Command Center.
“Army General Dmitri Bulgakov has been relieved of his post as Russia’s deputy defense minister after suffering a different fate”refers in the statement, without further details.
The new deputy defense minister, 60, commanded the Russian army’s operations in Syria and led the attack that ended in May with the capture of the city of Mariupol, in southeastern Ukraine.
This replacement comes at a time when Russian President Vladimir Putin has called for the “partial mobilization” of reservists to bolster the offensive in Ukraine.
