The gunman who killed eight people in a Texas shopping center on Saturday is a 33-year-old man who was staying at a nearby motel, according to authorities, who are investigating any links to white supremacist ideology.
On Saturday afternoon, a gunman opened fire at a mall in the Dallas, Texas, area, killing eight people and wounding several more before he was fatally shot by police.
Three police officers, who spoke to the Associated Press (AP) on condition of anonymity, identified the shooter as Mauricio Garcia.
One said investigators were searching the motel and a Dallas-area home linked to the suspect.
The same source told the AP that multiple weapons were found at the location after Garcia was fatally shot.
Authorities are also investigating possible links to white supremacist ideology, according to sources close to the investigation cited by The Wall Street Journal.
The shooter killed eight people and wounded seven others after shooting dozens of people who were shopping at the Premium Outlets mall in Allen, a town near Dallas, Texas. He used an AR-15 weapon, one of the most popular in the United States and which has been used to perpetrate several massacres.
According to the newspaper, the attacker had more weapons, was wearing a bulletproof vest and was carrying a lot of ammunition. More than 100 discharged cartridges were found at the crime scene.
The attacker was shot dead by a local police officer who was at the Allen Premium Outlets when he heard the shots.
