Volodymyr Zelensky acknowledges that Ukraine needs more time to prepare the long-awaited spring counter-offensive. In an interview with various media, the Ukrainian president believes that the offensive can continue, but that the human costs will be high.
“We can continue and I think we would succeed. But we would lose a lot of people. I think that would be unacceptable. So we have to wait. We need a little more time,” Zelensky said. quoted by the BBC, one of the media to whom he gave the interview, released this Thursday.
He revealed that Ukraine has prepared combat brigades for the counter-offensive, but admitted that all armored vehicles promised by Western allies have yet to arrive.
In this interview, the Ukrainian president reiterated that ceding territory to Russia is not on the table, which launched the special military operation on February 24, 2022, as Moscow denotes the invasion of Ukrainian territory.
“You can’t pressure Ukraine to give up territory. Why should any country in the world have to give up its territory to Putin?” asked Zelensky.
The head of state again denied any responsibility for Kiev in the attack on the Kremlin carried out using drones.
“They’re constantly looking for something that sounds like justification, saying, ‘You did this to us, so we’ll do that to you.’ But it didn’t work. It didn’t work even for the domestic audience. Even the propagandists themselves didn’t believe it, because it looked very, very artificial,” Zelensky argued.
