Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky today showed his willingness to welcome initiatives to achieve peace in the Russian invasion war, as long as it is based on the ten-point plan presented by Ukraine.
“First of all, the war is taking place on our territory and therefore any existing peace plan must refer to the Ukraine initiative,” which was presented at the G20 meeting in Indonesia, he said during the press conference together with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
As for the countries that submitted proposals, including Brazil, on which the journalists’ question was based, Zelensky stated that Ukraine does not need much planning.
“We are ready to listen to the initiatives of any country,” said the Ukrainian president, stressing the importance of involving as many countries as possible in his proposal for a summit for peace, based on Ukraine’s 10-point plan.
On his first visit to Germany since the Russian invasion, Zelensky reiterated that the country was ready to discuss any proposal, but only in the context of the measures presented by Ukraine.
In turn, the German chancellor underlined his full support for Ukraine, which, he added, is “ready for peace”.
However, Olaf Scholz said Ukraine demands that this does not mean “simply freezing the war and formulating a peace dictated by Russia”.
“This is an imperialist attack on the territory of Ukraine, and peace and security in Europe are under threat,” he warned.
The German chancellor also stressed that in order to talk about peace, it must be clear that “Russia must withdraw its troops”.
Also during the press conference, Zelensky stressed that Ukraine’s goal is “to liberate the areas within its internationally recognized borders”.
Olaf Scholz told the Ukrainian president that Germany will support Ukraine “for as long as necessary”.
The chancellor added that Berlin’s aid to Kiev, including armaments, totals €17 billion so far.
According to the French news agency AFP, the Ukrainian president welcomed the support of Germany, which he described as a “true friend” and “reliable ally”, after announcing a new supply of weapons in support of the counter-offensive being waged. prepared against Russia.
“In the most difficult period of Ukraine’s modern history, Germany proved to be our true friend and our trusted ally,” he said in English, before adding in German: “Danke Deutschland” (“Thank you Germany”).
Zelensky visits allies in an effort to secure more arms shipments to help his country defend itself against the Russian invasion and raise funds to rebuild what has been devastated by more than a year of devastating conflict.
On the eve of his arrival – which takes place in a highly secured environment – the German government announced a new package of military aid to Ukraine worth more than 2,700 million euros ($3,000 million), including tanks, anti-aircraft systems and ammunition.
