Ahead of a period of heightened military activity due to the anticipated Ukrainian counter-offensive, Sunak promises to deliver hundreds of air defense missiles and unmanned aerial systems, including drones with a range of more than 200 kilometers, in the coming months.
“This is a pivotal moment in Ukraine’s resistance to a terrible war of aggression that it did not choose or provoked. Ukraine needs the continued support of the international community to defend itself against the series of brutal and indiscriminate attacks that have been a daily reality for more than a year,” Sunak said.in a statement, before meeting Zelensky at his mansion in Checkers Court, outside London.
Remember, last week the UK became the first country to deliver Storm Shadow long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine, enabling it to strike far from the battle lines.
The trip to London, the second the Ukrainian head of state has made since the beginning of the Russian invasion – Zelensky was in the British capital in February – is part of a European tour that started in Italy, where he met the Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, who has also been to the Vatican with Pope Francis.
Zelensky was later in Berlin to meet with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and on Sunday he met French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.
