New British arms shipments to Ukraine, announced by London ahead of a meeting between British and Ukrainian leaders, will cause “even more destruction,” the Kremlin warned on Monday.
“The United Kingdom aims to put itself at the forefront of countries that continue to flood Ukraine with armaments,” Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told the press.
The Russian spokesman estimated that these deliveries “will not significantly affect the course” of the conflict, but will “wreak further havoc”.
“We see this very negatively,” added Peskov.
The UK today announced the delivery of “hundreds” of anti-aircraft missiles and attack drones to Ukraine ahead of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s visit to London.
Zelensky will be met today by British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak to discuss increased military support to resist Russia’s invasion, the British government announced.
The unexpected visit was confirmed in a statement, which said Zelensky would inform Sunak of the outcome of meetings with the leaders of Italy, Germany and France in recent days.
The United Kingdom, one of Kiev’s main supporters, had already announced last week that it intended to supply Storm Shadow cruise missiles to Ukraine, becoming the first country to deliver this type of long-range weapon.
These supplies come as Kiev prepares a counter-offensive to repel Russian troops from the areas they occupy in Ukraine.
In 2022, London delivered £2.3bn (€2.65bn) of military aid to Kyiv and the British government pledged to maintain this level of aid this year as it is the second largest aid after the United States.
