Russia said on Sunday that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s presence at the G7 turned the summit of the world’s seven most industrialized democracies into a “propaganda spectacle” that conveyed anti-Russian and anti-Chinese messages.
“G7 leaders invited the leader of the Kiev regime they control to their meeting and turned the event in Hiroshima into a propaganda spectacle”the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia said in a statement.
“The main conclusion of this summit was a series of hate-filled anti-Russian and anti-Chinese announcements,” he added.
The G7, he stressed, has become “a breeding ground for the development, under Anglo-Saxon leadership, of destructive initiatives that threaten global stability”.
Russian diplomacy further noted that the decline in Western influence “forces the members of the group to devote all their efforts to inciting anti-Russian and anti-Chinese hysteria”.
“We are confident that our assessment of the G7 and its destructive actions is shared by the majority of the international community,” he concluded.
The Ukrainian leader was the surprise guest at the summit of the group of the seven most developed democracies, which brings together Germany, Canada, the United States, France, Italy, Japan and the United Kingdom, plus the European Union (EU).
The G7 leaders called on China to pressure Russia to end the war against Ukraine, saying they wanted “constructive and stable” relations with Beijing.
Zelensky’s presence at the summit – with sideline meetings with various officials – is “a way of building peace,” French President Emmanuel Macron said today.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised the Ukrainian president on Saturday that India will do “everything possible” to find a solution to the conflict.
The G7 summit took place between Friday and today in the Japanese city of Hiroshima.
