The foreign affairs ministers of the European Union met this Monday in Brussels, and João Gomes Cravinho, the Portuguese representative, revealed to journalists that support for Ukraine has been discussed again and that the 11th package of sanctions is being prepared. , to “tighten the noose” to Russia.
“We also talked about the importance of dialogue with other parts of the world such as Latin America and Africa. The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine traveled from Lisbon to Africa to other parts of the world”, revealed Gomes Cravinho.
Although Portugal is not currently planning to send F-16 fighters to Ukraine, the country has offered to provide training.
“We have very good drivers and coaches. The expectation is that they are not our fighters. At the moment, the donation of F-16s to Ukraine that we are considering training is not on the table”, clarified the Minister of Foreign Affairs.
Gomes Cravinho also denied that there is an escalation of the war in the EU and guaranteed that, for the moment, they are only talking about defense measures and not about Ukraine’s accession or NATO’s entry into the war.
“We are talking about defense measures. Several EU countries have been supporting Ukraine in its legitimate defense by providing military support. There is no escalation here,” he added.
