WhatsApp announced on Monday that users can edit messages up to 15 minutes after they are sent. This functionality is already offered by applications such as Telegram and Signal and will be made available to the more than 2 billion WhatsApp users in the coming weeks.
“From correcting a spelling mistake to adding additional content to a post, we’re excited to provide more control over your posts,” the service announced in a blog post.
To edit a message, just tap on the sent text and choose the edit option. Edited posts are marked with “edited” information so users know the content has changed. However, they don’t know how the content was changed.
The WhatsApp announcement, part of Meta, came after Telegram and Signal began offering the ability to edit messages. Facebook introduced the edit option to its app over a decade ago.
