Netanyahu approved State Budget after agreement with ultra-Orthodox

The Israeli Parliament approved this Wednesday morning the State Budgets 2023-2024 after having granted funds to ultra-Orthodox Jews.

The funds, which provide for special financing of tens of millions of euros, are being criticized by the opposition to the Netanyahu government.

On Tuesday night, thousands of Israelis demonstrated in Jerusalem against the allocation of public funds to ultra-Orthodox Jews, accusing the ruling coalition of “plundering” the country.

Benjamin Netanyahu had already announced that the state would grant ultra-Orthodox men, who are married and who are studying religious studies, a total package of 250 million shekels (62.5 million euros), in addition to the subsidies that the community has already received. ultra-orthodox. .

It is a measure in the framework of a last-minute agreement with one of the ultra-Orthodox parties of the ruling coalition.

The Budget was approved by a majority of 64 right-wing deputies who support the government.

The Knesset, the lower house of the Israeli Parliament, is made up of a total of 120 parliamentarians.

“We won the elections, we approved the Budget, we continue for another four years,” Netanyahu said on the official Facebook account, after several weeks of negotiations on the budget demands of the coalition partners.

Netanyahu’s Executive, which brings together right-wing, ultra-nationalist and ultra-orthodox parties, had until May 29 to approve the General State Budget.

In the event of non-approval of the public accounts, the Government would be forced to call new general elections in a context marked, in recent months, by high inflation, rising interest rates and currency devaluation.
