Russia issues arrest warrant for Ukrainian military chief

The Russian Interior Ministry issued an arrest warrant on Tuesday for the head of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Valery Zaluzhny, whom the official Russian press had presumed dead last week.

Zaluzhny and other Ukrainian generals were charged this month by the Russian Investigative Committee with ordering the killing of civilians and the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Donbass, under Article 356 of the Russian Criminal Code.

Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces since July 2021, Zaluzhny, 49, has become a beloved figure among the Ukrainian people.

Last week, the official Russian press reported that the Ukrainian general had been killed in a missile attack in the Kherson region.

On Thursday, however, Zaluzhny appeared in a video released by the Armed Forces of his country to deny rumors coming from Moscow, which were considered an attempt to demoralize Ukrainian troops.

“Bad news for Russian propagandists! Valery Fedorovych [Zaluzhny] he is fine and continues to plan the liberation of the Ukrainian territories from the Russian invaders”, said an official of the Ukrainian Army, who assured that the head of the Armed Forces will speak, soon, to “all Ukrainians”.
