Last Friday, the Polish Interior Minister, Mariusz Kaminski, announced that the Warsaw government was going to take action against Minsk, after learning of the sentence of the Belarusian opposition leader, Andrzej Poczobut, sentenced to eight years in prison. for activity policies.

Poczobut, a Belarusian journalist and historian of Polish origin, has been imprisoned since March 2021.

The opponent was found by the Grodno court, in western Belarus, as responsible for “incitement to hatred”, carrying out “terrorist activities” and “rehabilitation of Nazism” in political activities against the Government of Minsk.

The activist who refused to apologize had his appeal rejected in a closed-door trial last week by Judge Igor Lubavitsky, who was decorated by Lukashenko.

According to the Polish press, Poczobut’s relatives recently noticed the physical degradation of the detainee who is in a maximum security establishment, isolated, without contact with a lawyer and under a very limited visiting regime.

The Government of Warsaw has asked Minsk to release Poczobut and all political dissidents who are imprisoned in Belarus, especially those belonging to the minority of 200,000 citizens of Polish origin.

Poland and Belarus maintain tense relations that have been aggravated since Warsaw accused Minsk of provoking a migratory crisis in the border area between the two countries, in 2021, and that Poland was used as a means to cause instability in Polish territory and in the Union European.
