One person was killed and ten injured in a fire at a refugee reception center in eastern Germany on Sunday, local police said.
Police in the German state of Thuringia said the fire broke out at around 5am local time in a building in the town of Apolda and a body had been recovered from the burned-out building.
A nine-year-old child was reported missing, police said, who did not say whether the body found belonged to the child.
On her Twitter account, German Interior Minister Nancy Faeser called the incident “terrible news”. He confirmed that an investigation was underway to determine the cause of the fire.
The 300 people in the shelter were evacuated and the residents transferred to another refugee center near Hermsdorf, a spokesman for the local government told the German news agency dpa.
Police said there were 250 people in the bomb shelter when the fire broke out and 10 were taken to a local hospital with injuries, police said, adding that there was no information on their health.
