The United Nations has unsuccessfully sought access to areas flooded by the destruction of a dam in Kherson and under Russian control, the organization announced.
UN humanitarian coordinator Denise Brown met with the head of Ukrainian diplomacy, Dimytro Kuleba, with whom she analyzed possible responses to the “catastrophe” of the Kakhovka dam, the destruction of which was mutually attributed by the two warring parties.
Brown confirmed in a statement that he had “repeatedly” asked for guarantees of access and security to the left bank, which is under “military control” by Russia.
“We have not been given this access,” he said, lamenting that he does not believe the conditions have been met for the time being to provide aid.
The UN and other humanitarian partners have already started delivering water, food and money to the affected people “from day one”, but only in the part that remains under Ukrainian control and despite the fact that they are “all Ukrainians in need”. on both sides of the world”. river Dnieper”.

The Ukrainian government has also accused the Russian authorities in recent days of abandoning populations that theoretically depend on them.
In total, dozens of villages were affected by the sudden rise in water levels after the partial collapse of the dam.
