Sunscreens will be free for the population of the Netherlands. The idea arose with the aim of combating the record levels of skin cancer in the country.
According to The Guardian newspaper, the Dutch government wants to allow everyone to have access to ultraviolet protection, without being affected by factors such as cost of living or nuisance.
The Venlo-Venray hospital is working with public health insurers to finance the pilot project, which sees the distribution of sanitary napkins in schools, universities, festivals, parks, sports facilities and other public spaces in the Netherlands.
To implement this idea, the possibility of replacing hand sanitizer dispensers, which were used during the pandemic, with sunscreen dispensers, is on the table.
TO TSFdermatologist Fernando Ribas, of the Portuguese League Against Cancer, praises the initiative, but warns against the “false sense of security” that it can also convey.
“Sunscreen provides partial protection, so this measure is justified if it is to protect people who cannot avoid excessive sun protection,” he said.

The doctor stresses that the measure could be important in Portugal, since sunscreens are sold at “exorbitant” prices, making it difficult for those who need them to buy them.
