At least 958 civilians killed in two months of fighting in Sudan

At least 958 civilians have been killed in two months of clashes in Sudan between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces, according to data from the Sudan Doctors Union.

The union, which has a wide network of collaborators in the country’s medical centers, indicated that more than 4,746 civilians have been injured since the start of hostilities on April 15.

However, the union warned that the figures are lower than the real ones, with “many deaths and injuries” in Khartoum and other parts of the country, which were “not included” in this count.

The conflict began on April 15 between the Army, led by General Abdel Fattah al-Burhane, and paramilitaries from the Rapid Support Forces, led by General Mohamed Hamdane Daglo, after disagreements over the unification of the Armed Forces, within the framework of an agreement signed for the transition to democracy.

In addition to thousands injured, the conflict has already caused at least 850 deaths and forced 1.6 million people to flee their homes to flee the violence, many to neighboring countries, according to the UN.
