While large retail brands have just launched their cost price operations to reduce the bill at the pump, fuel prices fell last week.
Drops of more or less 3 cents
Diesel lost 2.9 cents to an average of 1.9121 euros per liter, according to the weekly statement from the Ministry of Ecological Transition, with prices as of Friday, September 29.
For its part, 95 E10 unleaded gasoline fell 3.4 cents, to 1.9102 euros on average in France.
This is the first time since the beginning of July that the two most consumed fuels in France have seen their prices fall significantly and at the same time since the beginning of July, as can be seen in the following historical curve.
On July 7, diesel was trading at 1.6658 euros per liter and gasoline at 1.7895 euros per liter, before starting an almost constant rise throughout the summer and until this beginning of autumn 2023. The only exception, in mid-August with a drop of just over a cent for diesel.
Last week, with a new increase, both fuels approached their highest level of the year.
This drop clearly shows the effect of fuel on the cost price, with a decrease limited, in fact, to a few cents for large distribution brands, which began their daily activity until the end of the year since last Friday (Leclerc, Carrefour and Casino). and others that will increase this type of campaigns over the coming months.
The rise in crude oil prices, the main explanation for the recent rise in fuel prices, also stopped last week. A barrel of North Sea Brent thus remained stable at $95.2.
