Fuel prices: Gasoline fell sharply last week

Fuel prices fell for the second week in a row, with 95-E10 unleaded down 4.7 cents and diesel down 2 cents.

New notable drop in fuel prices. The pump price of unleaded 95-E10 stood on average in France at 1.8632 euros per liter, 4.7 cents less than the previous week, according to the weekly statement from the Ministry of Ecological Transition, whose prices were set from on Friday. October 6.

A less significant drop for diesel

Diesel shows a more measured fall, losing 2 cents last week to reach an average of 1.8921 euros per liter.

The most consumed gasoline in France has thus returned to its level at the end of July and is moving away from its maximum of 1,944 euros per liter on September 22, with 8 cents less than this last maximum. We are still more than 7 cents away from its early July price.

In the case of diesel, the drop remains less impressive, with a price close to that of early September. And the difference is still significant with its lowest price at the beginning of July, 1.67 euros per liter, 22 cents less than last week’s average.

The effect of the cost price of fuels.

This drop is mainly explained by the cost price operations carried out during the last two weeks by large retail brands, on a daily or regular basis.

With a very visible effect: if we look at our ranking of average prices by brand, in Leclerc diesel was priced on average at 1,788 euros per liter this Monday, October 9, while on September 25 it was 1,917 euros per liter. In a 50 liter tank, this represents a saving of almost 6.50 euros.

Another element: a crude oil price that is falling, although it has been the cause of the increase since early summer. North Sea Brent thus stood at $91.9 per barrel on Friday, $3.3 less than the previous week.

However, following the Hamas terrorist attack against Israel this weekend, oil prices rose in the markets on Monday. Black gold remains especially sensitive to geopolitical risk.
