It’s a moving short film that was posted online last Sunday. With the particularity of not being integrated into a new road safety campaign or a prevention association, but rather being the work of a director especially interested in this project. The result: a shocking clip titled “Goodbye Mom”, see below.
The summary: “At two in the morning on Sunday, a mother wakes up to a call that will change her life. A few hours before, while leaving a birthday party, her son is the victim of a tragic traffic accident.” A simple scenario, but unfortunately a reflection of an implacable reality. Every year in France, road safety estimates that around 30% of fatal accidents are due to excessive alcohol consumption.
“A story of injustice that is close to my heart”
The director, Ludovic Hudson, aka Ludoc, is not very used to this type of clips and became best known for his work on Studio Bagel. It is “a story of injustice that I have very close to my heart and that I have wanted to tell for a long time,” he summarizes in the video description.
“It’s been over six years since I had the idea, over two years since I had the support of CNC Talent, over a year since we shot it with my team… and in a few days, I’m finally sharing it with you “he wrote on Instagram a few days before sharing the clip.
“It’s very different from everything I’ve done so far,” he emphasized. “In 15 years of directing, I’ve done a lot of sketches, a lot of clips, a lot of commercials…most of the time with comedy. So this is a little new for me, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone, I hope you’re still there.”
Ludoc invites Internet users to massively share this video, with versions of the clip spread on YouTube, Instagram and Tiktok.
Alcohol kills… but not necessarily the person who drank
Ludoc insists on his desire to take the latest prevention messages in the opposite direction, focusing instead on the risks for those who have consumed alcohol:
“For several years I have had the feeling that many awareness campaigns focus on those who drink and forget those who do not and who, however, can also be collateral victims.”
With a stated objective for this film: “to create awareness among people”:
“So that at the end of the evening, once we are behind the wheel, we remember that we are not only risking our lives, but also the lives of others that we put in danger. Because it is obvious But we must remember: driving while intoxicated “He doesn’t choose his victims.”
The world of this director, who also presents himself as a YouTuber, is quite far from this latest project. Ludoc was “the main director of Studio Bagel for many years and was at the origin of many of its projects,” explains a statement, which also mentions his work for brands such as Coca Cola, PSG (All Accor with Neymar) and Volkswagen (with Tomer Sisley). We also owe him the documentary series “Amateur” under the GQ Originals label as well as the series “True Story” for Amazon Prime. Finally, in 2020, he published a book called “Videographer’s Survival Manual.”
