The hybrid, the best-seller of 2024? This is what the latest figures for August show: this engine that combines thermal and electric power accounted for 43% of new car sales.
Three variants of hybridizations.
A trend that has been evident since the beginning of the year: since January, far ahead of petrol (31.8%), 100% electric (16.8%) and diesel (7.8%), hybrids have accounted for almost 40% of the new market in France. Or rather “hybrids”, if we take into account the different variants.
In detail, the mild hybrid (or “mhev” for “mild hybrid electric vehicle”) represents 13.6% of new car sales in France from January to August. A rate that rises to 18.3% for the most popular category, the “full hybrid” (or classic hybrid, non-rechargeable hybrid). Finally, the plug-in hybrid (or “PHEV” for “plug-in hybrid electric vehicle”) accounts for a market share of 7.9%.
Given this success, what are the most popular models by category? Here are the top 3 of these three main hybrid families according to data provided by AAA Data.
