Volkswagen has just revealed what its electric future will be’entry level with an ID.2 that should be offered below 25,000 euros in 2026. Enough to enter the battle with the future Renault R5 and Tesla “Model 2”.

While sales of its 2019-launched ID range are struggling to take off, Volkswagen has just revealed what should really allow it to gain momentum in this market.’electric. A market still largely dominated by Tesla in 2022… and Chinese manufacturers, for the moment quite concentrated in their local market, but which are beginning to position themselves in Europe with models that have an unbeatable value for money, as is the case of the compact. In China, Volkswagen is currently the market leader for all engines combined, with 3.15 million sales in 2022. But its sales of 100% electric models account for just 5% of this total.

The promise?

At 4 meters long, this ID.2 approaches the’current pole. But with an interior closer to that of’a Golf, thanks to the space saved by the electric motor.

Essential point for an electric car: l’autonomy. Volkswagen announces “until’450 km”, but without specifying if this will affect the version of less than 25,000 euros. The same happens with the load capacity, which would allow going from 10 to 80%.’autonomy in 20 minutes in a fast direct current terminal, and up to’to 11 kW in alternating current.

A single engine should be proposed, located in the’before, it will offer 166 kW of power, or 226 horsepower.

Currently, Volkswagen’s electric range in France starts with the e-Up! from 27,945 euros (bonus of 5,000 euros not discounted). A 3.5 meter model, almost 50 centimeters shorter than’a Polo and the future ID.2.

It is a 32.3 kWh battery, with a theoretical autonomy of 260 km, and a motor of’a power of 61 kW (83 horsepower).

In February 2021, Renault presents its R5 concept, presented as quite close to the final version. Yo’The goal is still to market it in 2024, expecting a presentation of the production model at the end of 2023.

The promise?

This model should inaugurate a new CMF-BEV platform. This technical base, a cousin of the CMF-B dedicated to heat engines, but here adapted to electric ones. Yo’The electric offer currently starts at 25,250 euros (5,000 euros bonus not discounted) with the Twingo E-Tech (4 seats). There is a 22 kWh battery for an announced autonomy of 190 km. the engine in’the rear offers 60 kW (81 horsepower).

For this price, this version offers an announced range of 491 km, a top speed of 225 km/h and a 0 to 100 km/h time of 6.1 seconds. Tesla has not communicated since 2017 battery capacity or power figures (with rare exceptions, such as with the latest Tesla Model S and X Poster with 1020 horses announced on its official website).
