kyiv’s allies vow to deliver ‘hundreds’ of air defense missiles

Ukraine’s allies will deliver “hundreds” of short- and medium-range air defense missiles and associated systems to kyiv, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands and Denmark, they announce.

Ukraine’s allies will deliver “hundreds” of air defense missiles to Kiev to protect its critical infrastructure in support of the counter-offensive launched against Russian forces, the United Kingdom, the United States, the Netherlands and Denmark announced Thursday.

This equipment is to “meet (Ukraine’s) urgent air defense needs as Russia continues its brazen missile and drone attacks on Ukrainian cities,” the defense ministries of its four countries wrote in a joint statement.

Kiev will receive “hundreds of short- and medium-range air defense missiles and associated systems necessary to protect Ukraine’s critical infrastructure and ensure successful counter-offensive operations in the coming months,” they added.

Take back all territories

This announcement was made on the sidelines of a meeting in Brussels on Thursday of the Ukrainian Defense Contact Group (UDCG), led by the United States and which brings together some fifty countries that provide military support to Kiev.

Delivery of this equipment “has already begun and should be completed within several weeks,” according to the joint statement. They add to a long list of military equipment and weapons handed over by Ukraine’s Western allies since the start of the Russian invasion.

A week after the start of its counteroffensive, Ukraine assured this Thursday that it had advanced on the front and recovered “more than 100 square kilometers” of territory, while Russia claims to have repelled the attacks from Kiev.

This counteroffensive is aimed at repelling Russian forces from the areas they occupy in the south and east of the country. Ukrainian authorities have indicated that they intend to recapture all territories, including Crimea and regions under the control of pro-Russian separatists since 2014.
