After new cancellations of numerous regional flights, the prefect of Guadeloupe acknowledges a shortage of qualified personnel to maintain the service.

In Guadeloupe, the lack of personnel among air traffic controllers affects the operation of the Guadeloupe-Pôle Caraïbes airport, denounced this Tuesday several elected officials who feared “tensions” during the summer and consequences for the local economy.

In a press release published on Tuesday, the prefect of Guadeloupe, Xavier Lefort, reported the “difficulties encountered in arming the air traffic control posts inside the control tower of the Guadeloupe-Pôle Caraïbes airport.”

The prefect said he met on Tuesday with the Antilles-Guyana civil aviation and air navigation services to “assess the shortage of qualified personnel, identify its origins and examine the various ways to guarantee the maintenance service.”

It specifies that “regular monitoring is organized” to “anticipate tensions during the July-August period.”

Miami, Fort de France, Santo Domingo…

Tuesday, the Guadeloupe Pôle Caraïbe airport has announced that “all regional flights en provenance or destination de Miami, Fort de France, Cayenne, Saint Barthélémy, Saint Martin et Saint Domingue au départ et à l’arrivée de Guadeloupe” have been cancelled. that day.
