Two days before the general policy speech of the new Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu scheduled for Tuesday, October 7, part of his government was presented.
Bruno Retailleau inside, Annie Ginevard to agriculture, Jean-Noël Barrot in foreign matters, Rachida Dati in culture, Gérald Darmanin for Justice … A large majority of ministers designated in this government of Sébastien Lecornu are the same ones that were in François Bayrou.
Only a few changes are observed, in particular the return of Bruno Le Maire, who becomes minister of the Armed Forces or the appointment of Roland Lescure for the Ministry of Economy. Former Minister Éric Woerth becomes Minister of Territories and Decentralization.
The indignant left and the extreme right
While Sébastien Lecornu had talked about a “rest” compared to François Bayrou, the oppositions are rebelling, this Sunday night, of this lack of change.
“The Government announced tonight, composed of the last macronists grabbed to the Balsa de la Medusa, has decided everything about continuity, absolutely nothing of the breakdown that the French expect,” deplored the president of the National Rally Jordan Bardella.
For Marine Le Pen, this “identical government” election is “pathetic”. She adds: “The arms fall from us.”
Eric Ciotti believes that this new government “is an arm of honor for the French.”
“We take the same and we start again. As a bonus, the return of man to the debt of 1000 billion. The last quarter of macronism is anything but the breakup requested by the French. This provocation will not be without consequences,” he warned in X.
“With Emmanuel Macron, the worst is still safe”
Deputy LFI and the president of the Finance Committee, Éric Cookerel, on the other hand, denounced “a government of the losers.” “With Emmanuel Macron, the worst is still safe. We see that it is a Bayrou without Bayrou, but much more to the right, because they are mainly elements to the right of macronism that returns, impose the same policy. What democracy are we?” He said in BFMTV.
“More than a year after July 2024, these are still governments of losers that are imposed on us. It is still amazing,” said Éric Coquerel.
“All that for that?” He asks Jean-Luc Mélenchon, who adds: “The Lecornu government is a ghost procession at 80 % of LR and the former LR hired to continue a policy that has caused so much popular suffering and ecological damage. Elections for nothing, two censures for nothing? Will not. And the whole country.”
The president of the Socialist Group in the National Assembly, Boris Vallaud, on the other hand, denounced the “obstinacy” of the macronistas who “immerses the country a little more in chaos every day.”
“They lose the elections but govern. They have no majority but reject the commitments. They are overturned but remain in office. What do the macronists play?” He wrote in X.
This new government will meet Monday afternoon around Emmanuel Macron on Monday afternoon during a first council of ministers. Other appointments, especially for state secretariats, must take place in the next few days.
